Once considered a "garden suburb" of Boston, today's residents of Roslindale are still attracted to the neighborhood's natural beauty. Locals walk and bike in the Arnold Arboretum, a 265-acre oasis that is part of Frederick Law Olmsted's Emerald Necklace. Roslindale Village is the city's original Main Street district and now one of the city's most vibrant, featuring numerous restaurants, markets, unique shops, and their weekly Farmer's Market in Adams Park. Roslindale Square, the heart of the neighborhood, is the subject of a National Trust for Historic Preservation Main Street Award.

There are big plans for Adams Park. Kyle Zick, the founder and principal of Kyle Zick Landscape Architecture has completed his redesign of the park that will create more space for performances, seating, and community events.

Chris Douglass, the owner of Dorchester’s Ashmont Grill and Tavolo, will likely be opening a restaurant in the enormous Roslindale Substation located at the intersection of Cummins Highway and Washington Street. "We’re extraordinarily confident he is coming in," said Adam Rogoff, the Roslindale Village Main Street Substation Committee co-chairman, who spoke about the project during RVMS’ annual meeting at St. Nectarios Church last week.

Next to the former Substation will be new homes. 43 units are scheduled to be built at the site. 6 of the units would be affordable. More info about this here.

The Village has already made dramatic strides in its dining options. Foodies have been flocking to Delfino, for fine Italian cuisine, since 2001. Locals and those in the know sit al fresco at the cozy Sophia's Grotto. Steps away from the Grotto lies Village Sushi & Birch Street Bar & Grill. All three restaurants offer outdoor seating, as does Redd's in Rozzie, a versatile Southern inspired restaurant, right around the block. You can grab burgers & wings, watch sports and play some pool at Napper Tandy's. Shanti delivers authentic Indian food. Fornax is a bakery featured in many of Boston's top restaurants. Tony's Meat Market is a neighborhood jewel. You'll find Tony behind the counter every day, always kind and helpful. Tony recently  celebrated his 50th year in business. There are wine and cheese shops, florists, specialty gifts and much more. Every month, the local artisans host a free Open Studios to showcase and sell their items.

Many of the neighborhood's large colonial homes are being converted into condos to accommodate the influx of young professionals and families. The MBTA buses and commuter rail provide commuters with easy access to downtown. Roslindale is bordered by the VFW Parkway, the Arnold Arboretum, Forest Hills & Mount Hope Cemeteries, Stony Brook Reservation and the West Roxbury Parkway.
